Description:
Having previously experimented with jewellery making and regularly painting my own nails, I was fascinated when I came across a silversmith producing custom press-on nails made entirely from silver. The concept immediately appealed to me, not only as a unique form of wearable metalwork but also as a practical solution to a long-standing problem. As someone who is particularly hard on their hands, I frequently found that my thumb and index fingernails would break.
With access to many of the necessary tools, I decided to develop my own set as a personal project. My first attempt was made from brass, which proved far more difficult to work with than expected. Drawing on the lessons learned from that process, I created a second set in sterling silver, taking advantage of the material's superior workability and finish. I later produced a third, shorter silver set, refining both the fit and construction. Through these pieces, I explored the intersection of jewellery, functionality, and personal adornment while developing my metalworking skills.
(They make a great guitar pick.)
